This trip began with 3 hours of sleep and baking from 7a.m. until 2p.m.
Jess from Step Into Fiction was my traveling buddy and honorary Navigator.
I don't think she was fully aware of what she signed up for when she agreed to ride with me.
Two hours, 13 dozen Angel & Demon cupcakes, one scenic detour and a crapton of traffic later, we reached Shirlington, VA, where we grabbed a quick bite to eat and then joined USA Today and New York Times Bestselling Author Wendy Higgins as she celebrated the release of Sweet Reckoning, the final installment in the Sweet Series.
(Btw, I probably botched that title and if I did, my apologies, but CONGRATULATIONS, WENDY!)
Wendy presented me with my very own Kaidan Rowe V.I.P. pass!
We met up with other bloggers like Jennifer from The Bawdy Book Blog, Jenny from MAMA Bookasaurus and Malissa from Reads All The Books - she and her husband came dressed like Anna and Kai on the cover!
Wendy requested Angel & Demon Cupcakes to go along with the theme of the party.
"Anna" was Vanilla with Strawberry Buttercream
And Kaidan was Dark Chocolate with Dark Chocolate Buttercream
We came away with angel and demon gumball goodie bags and signed copies of Sweet Reckoning.
And then we started the drive back, which according to GPS, would only take an hour and fifteen minutes.
Buuut we know what that really means, GPS...
Instead of just taking us north toward Baltimore, GPS decided we needed to take a little field trip to into D.C.
C.S.I. Style.
Me: I'm pretty sure this is not how we're supposed to go home.
Jess: Holy crap, that was a legit crime scene! There were like five cop cars and everything was taped off.
Me: Just don't make eye contact. *thinks to self* Please don't let us die because I really want to make it BEA.
About halfway home is when the lack of sleep started to really set in.
I'm not even sure what we were talking about, but I know I was rambling on about high school and how, one day in 10th grade I told my boyfriend off at lunch in front of a restaurant full of students (we had open lunch) because he was being cocky and it was annoying.
You know, just you're typical get-to-know-you-better kind of sharing.
Jess was a good sport about it but I'm pretty sure she was side-eyeing me and thinking...
I had a great time! Thank you, Wendy Higgins for asking me to do the cupcakes and thank you, Jess for being my chaperon. ;)
OMG thank you for this. I thought the other post about NYC was entertaining but I about died reading this. I feel bad on the way home you talked most of the time...maybe it's because you were so tired but besides my commenting on passing an actual crime scene, I didn't say too much (or I don't remember at least lol). But let me wipe my tears from laughing. Can we travel more often? It's an adventure no matter where we go! :D
ReplyDeleteYes, I would love to travel more places with you, Jess! :D
ReplyDeleteYou'll be happy to know I am almost done with Sweet Evil and yes it is compulsory! Really enjoying it so far :)
