When I Grow Up...

Hanging out with an 8 year old all day means lots of interesting conversations and one that seems to be on repeat is, "I wanna be a (insert occupation) when I grow up." So far, he's come up with a Spy, Navy SEAL, Police Officer, Boy Band Member...pretty much anything that will involve doing stunts, a weapon and cool hair.

This got me thinking about all the things I wanted to be when I grew up and when I shared some of these with the boys, both seemed genuinely shocked to discover that Motherhood and Homeschooling were not a lifelong ambition of mine.

What did I want to be when I grew up? Here are a few that gave me a good laugh...

1. A Solid Gold Dancer

2. Soul Train Dancer

3. Fly Girl on "In Living Color" - notice a pattern here?

4. Flight Attendant

5. Veterinarian

6. Pilot

7. Princess - Thank you Disney for giving me false expectations about pretty much everything.

8. FBI Agent

9. A man - Yeah, OK, so this one needs explaining. It was the summer of 198something and I was a disgruntled five year old who was not being allowed to run around without her shirt on. Mom sat me down and explained that while it was socially acceptable for men and boys to go shirtless, the same did not hold true for women and girls. So, in my five year old mind I decided growing up to be a man would be ideal because then I'd be able to run around shirtless. Again, I was FIVE.

10. Psychologist

What did you want to be when you grew up?
