ABOUT THE BOOK
Frost Fire (Tortured Elements, #1)
Author: Olivia Rivers
Publication date: November 20th, 2012

ā€œMagic is just like love, Allai. It wonā€™t wait for permission before it destroys you.ā€

ā€Øā€ØLike sand in an hourglass, Allaiā€™s future is dwindling away. Sheā€™s spent her entire life fighting the Mages who threaten humanity, and dreams of someday eradicating magic. But all it takes is an anonymous phone call for the truth to spill out: Allai is the one thing she despises most. ā€Øā€Ø

Sheā€™s a Mage. ā€Øā€Ø

Though ancient law mandates Allaiā€™s death, she still has one last chance of survival. His name is Drake Rhaize, and he swears he can lead Allai to a sanctuary for Mages. Allai hasnā€™t seen Drake in years, but she remembers him as the Demon boy who used to hold her close and softly whisper that heā€™d keep her safe. But Drake has changed since then: Heā€™s now suspected of murder, and has been out-casted for betraying his own kind. ā€Øā€Ø

While Allai doesnā€™t trust Drake, she has no choice but to put her life in his hands and hope he can get her to safety. Because Allaiā€™s father has hired a pack of Demons to bring her back to him, dead or aliveā€“and Demons never stop the hunt.

MY THOUGHTS
3 Stars
What I liked: This was an enjoyable read and the writing really impressed me, especially since Miss Rivers is still in high school. The pacing is just right, the characters well developed and I liked watching the story unfold from both Allai and Drake's POV. The twist at the end was REALLY intriguing and I'm curious to see what happens next.

What left me wanting: The history that Drake and Allai share is mentioned a few times but I didn't feel connected to it which made their romance seem a bit "insta-loveish". Hopefully, the next book will provide some more background detail.

Final verdict: This is a entertaining start to a new paranormal series by a talented young author.

"Clockwork Prince" (The Infernal Devices Book 2) ~ Cassandra Clare

Let's take a moment to drool over, I mean, appreciate the pretty cover, shall we? *sighs* Once again, Cassandra Clare has managed to suck me into her colorful story of adventure, intrigue, love, romance and excruciating heartbreak.  *clutches chest*  Normally, I blast through books in a few hours, but I purposely took my time with this one because I wanted to savor every minute with Will, Jem and Tessa but HOLY CUPCAKE!!  Could you find another way to rip my heart out, do a "stomp the yard" dance on it and throw it back at me with demon pox all over it?!  *clutches chest*  How anyone with a heart can NOT be "Team Will" after this book, I'll never understand but if they aren't, then I say, in the words of giddy Will, "A demonpox on all your houses!" OK, so that's a tad harsh but still. "Clockwork Prince" picks up right where "Clockwork Angel" leaves off, with Tessa still trying to discover who she is and what Mortma...
