4 Stars!
*The macaroons on the cover make me think of Paris*
Confession: Breaking up with my best friend is harder than I thought. . .
Hayley, her little sister, Chloe, and their mom have finally settled into their new home above their Gran's tea shop. But things at school aren't so peachy. Hayley's former best friend, Artie, is back in the picture and getting between Hayley and her new pal Meghan. Artie and Meghan are like oil and water -- they just don't mix! This looks like another recipe for disaster!
Thank you Kids Books Central and Scholastic for this ARC.
What I loved: The cover, the recipes and how Hayley strives to bring out the best in others regardless of how they're treating her. Her family is close nit despite the recent divorce of her parents and her friendships reflect the awkwardness that comes along with the middle school years. Girlfriends argue, guy friends begin to stir up funny feelings and class clowns are anything but funny. The relationship between Hayley and Chloe is really sweet and it's nice to read a book where the sisters actually enjoy each other, for now anyway.
What left me wanting: The stage is set for sweet romance to bloom and I was hoping to see more of that in this book but my guess is the next installment will reveal whether or not Hayley gets a "happily-ever-after".
Final verdict: Another sweet offering from Lisa Papademetriou about family, friendship and just being yourself.
