The Treatment (The Program #2) by Suzanne Young
Publication: April 29, 2014
By: Simon Pulse

Can Sloane and James survive the lies and secrets surrounding them, or will The Program claim them in the end? Find out in this sequel to The Program, which Publishers Weekly called “chilling and suspenseful.”
How do you stop an epidemic?
Sloane and James are on the run after barely surviving the suicide epidemic and The Program. But they’re not out of danger. Huge pieces of their memories are still missing, and although Sloane and James have found their way back to each other, The Program isn’t ready to let them go.
Escaping with a group of troubled rebels, Sloane and James will have to figure out who they can trust, and how to take down The Program. But for as far as they’ve come, there’s still a lot Sloane and James can’t remember. The key to unlocking their past lies with the Treatment—a pill that can bring back forgotten memories, but at a high cost. And there’s only one dose.
Ultimately when the stakes are at their highest, can Sloane and James survive the many lies and secrets surrounding them, or will The Program claim them in the end?

My thoughts
I enjoy duologies and I REALLY enjoy Suzanne Young and her style of writing! The Treatment, like it's predecessor, The Program, takes an interesting and unique look at mental health issues, how they're diagnosed and treated.

Sloane and James' journey is not an easy one but is chocked full of twists, and turns. It's hard to say too much about it without spoiling anything, but just know that we get to see familiar faces along with some new ones and of course, there are FEELINGS. LOTS of feelings! I'm so glad this was not dragged out into three and that epilogue is perfect.

Fans of this story and these characters will not be disappointed! :D

INTERVIEW

1) If your life, right now, had a theme song, what would it be?

I feel like it would be The Middle by Jimmy Eat World.

2) What has been one of your favorite author moments? One of my favorite reader moments was having the chance to meet and chat with you during the Simon Teen Blogger Preview at BEA last year. Meat skewer? ;D
Can I say the same moment? I think one of my favorites would be last year when The Program came out. My students put together a skit, and at the signing, they acted it out—without the audience knowing they were going to.

The students sat in the front row, and while I was speaking, one girl drew spirals in a notebook. Just when I was about to read the first chapter, two men in white coats came in and stopped next to her. They said, “Sloane Barstow, please come with us.” She told them she wasn’t sick. Started screaming. They grabbed her by the arms and dragged her out. The audience was STUNNED. Then I started reading, having no noticeable reaction.

Right at the end of the scene, the girl walked back in calm, serene, and wearing lemon yellow scrubs. It was pretty awesome.
3) Is there anything you absolutely MUST HAVE while writing? (Music, snacks, silence, etc.)
I love to have snacks. Tiny food (goldfish crackers, pretzels, candy corn) keeps me from getting bored.
4) What is one place you'd like to visit before you die?

There are so many places I’d love to go. In the US, I’d love to spend time in New Orleans.

5) I ask all of my blog guests this question...Brownies, cupcakes or pie?
Hm… I’m going to have to go with brownies, but without nuts.

  1. I love this interview!!! Wish I had been at the Simon Teen Blogger Preview, but without a timeturner I can't do all the things at BEA.

I read The Treatment and I loved it. I'm not going to enter this giveaway, since I've had the pleasure of reading this book, but it's an awesome giveaway!
