5 Stars!
In the first in a dazzling new series, New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath introduces the Hellions of Havisham—three charismatic rogues destined to lose their hearts...
After six unsuccessful Seasons, Miss Minerva Dodger chooses spinsterhood over fortune-hungry suitors. But thanks to the Nightingale Club, she can at least enjoy one night of pleasure. At that notorious establishment, ladies don masks before choosing a lover. The sinfully handsome Duke of Ashebury is more than willing to satisfy the secretive lady's desires—and draws Minerva into an exquisite, increasingly intimate affair.
A man of remarkable talents, Ashe soon deduces that his bedmate is the unconventional Miss Dodger. Intrigued by her wit and daring, he sets out to woo her in earnest. Yet Minerva refuses to trust him. How to court a woman he has already thoroughly seduced? And how to prove that the passion unleashed in darkness is only the beginning of a lifetime's pleasure?

You know that feeling when you read a book and think, this author gets it? And the story leaves you feeling happy, excited, and most importantly, understood?
That's what Falling Into Bed with a Duke did for me.
I'll elaborate in a minute, but first.
Minerva is unconventional and straightforward, she's unwilling to let a man dictate how she will spend the rest of her life. If she can't marry for love, she'll just stay single, thank you very much. She's ballsy, to say the least, and I loved her!
And then there is the tall, dark and devilishly swoony Duke of Ashebury. A man who knows exactly what he wants and doesn't let anyone--including a woman like Minerva--keep him from getting it. Even if it means putting it all on the line.
Families come in all shapes and sizes and aren't always defined by blood, something that both Minerva and Ashe can relate to. I really enjoyed the interactions between the characters and there's a scene near the end that brings that full circle and made me cry.
This is a spin-off of the Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James series, and we're treated to cameos by those characters.
Historical Fiction is not my first choice of genres. As I explained to Lorraine when I met her at RT2105, my brain likes to switch numbers on me, which makes keeping track of dates a challenge. She smiled and said, "You have Dyscalculia. So does one of my characters in my new book." In that moment, I didn't care if I even ended up LIKING this character, I just knew I HAD to read this book. I was sold on the spot!
Most people I meet have never heard of Dyscalculia--it's like a form of Dyslexia that only affects numbers. They just assume I don't like Math. This is true. But it's because I can't trust my brain to show me what's really there. I can look at the numbers and copy them down but when I try to solve a complicated equation, it's like translating a foreign language. It's exacerbated when I'm feeling stressed which only adds to my frustration and embarrassment.
Lorraine Heath did a GREAT job capturing all of the emotions, insecurities, and little nuances someone with Dyscalculia deals with. For that, I thank you, Lorraine.
The quote below sums it up pretty well. *I've taken the liberty of substituting my name so as not to spoil the character.
"But put a series of numbers in front of [Jen], and it was as though [Jen's] brain considered them to be little more than colorful balls to juggle around. It was the true reason [Jen] avoided card games. It was a complete nightmare when values associated with cards had to be tallied."
I really enjoyed this one and I'm excited to see whose story is next!
