Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.
What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.
Thank you Laura Howard for this ebook!
What I Liked: Beautiful cover! I think this is the first NA book I've read that has NOT been a contemporary so, yay for that! I also appreciated that this is a fairly clean read as far as NA's go. It still has romance and swoon, but it doesn't delve too deep or get graphic which was refreshing. I love all things Irish and the twist on why Allison's mom is the way she is was creative and interesting. And then there's Ethan. I think he was my favorite character which is why what he experiences left me a little heartsick. WHY LAURA? WHY?! ;)
What Left Me Wanting More: I dove into this without rereading the summary and the fantasy element through me for a loop, but not in a bad way. I just wasn't expecting it. The ending felt a little abrupt to me, however, it does a great job of creating interest in where the story will go next which is always a plus.
Final Verdict: Engaging start to a new series!

Thanks so much Jen!
ReplyDeleteYAY! You read it! And a New Adult book that isn't a contemp with a graphic sex scene (or twelve)? Sounds very awesome. I can't wait to read this!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I did get this book but haven't read it yet. I do like that its different from all the other NA out there. I'll have to move it up my list. Great review Jen!
