Make it Last (Friends & Lovers, #1)

In a small town, it's hard to recover from being dumped by your high school sweetheart. That's just what Briana has to do after Colin leaves her to follow his dreams. She focuses her energy into her friendships and the pursuit of her own goal of becoming a chef. Just when she finally feels like she's on the right path, he comes back to town.

Colin knew breaking up with Briana before leaving for college was the right thing to do. He was determined to leave small-town life behind forever, and that included his high school girlfriend. But when a sports injury puts him on the sidelines, he's forced to return home. Seeing Briana again brings back a lot of memories, and Colin wonders if he made the right decision. It doesn't take long for him to realize he wants her back, and this time, he wants to make it last.

Excerpt:
ā€œHi, Colin,ā€ She replied, and started to walk around him.
ā€œWait,ā€ Colin exclaimed, putting his hand on her arm to stop her from walking
away. ā€œCanā€™t we talk?ā€
Briana looked pointedly at his hand and then up at his face, not saying anything
until he removed it.
ā€œWe donā€™t have anything to talk about, Colin.ā€ Briana said, hoping her face looked
bored, because her nerves were bouncing all over the place. ā€œBesides, Iā€™m working.ā€
ā€œLooks like youā€™re on break,ā€ he replied. ā€œCā€™mon, Bree, just give me a couple
minutes.ā€
Briana was about to tell him to shove it, when she felt someone come up behind
her and two strong arms wrapped around her from behind.

ā€œHey, Babe, Iā€™ve been wondering if Pam was ever gonna give you a break.ā€ Kent
whispered in her ear, he said it loud enough for Colin to hear, and Briana notice him stiffen at Kentā€™s words and his obvious familiarity.
ā€œYeah, Iā€™ve got a quick one,ā€ Briana turned and gave him a grateful look, before
going up on his tip toes to meet him for a kiss.
She thought she heard a grunt or something come from Colin, so she turned to
give him a smile and an introduction.
ā€œOh, sorry,ā€ she said, not the least bit sorry. ā€œKent, this is Colin, we went to high
school together. Colin, this is Kent.ā€

"Clockwork Prince" (The Infernal Devices Book 2) ~ Cassandra Clare

Let's take a moment to drool over, I mean, appreciate the pretty cover, shall we? *sighs* Once again, Cassandra Clare has managed to suck me into her colorful story of adventure, intrigue, love, romance and excruciating heartbreak.  *clutches chest*  Normally, I blast through books in a few hours, but I purposely took my time with this one because I wanted to savor every minute with Will, Jem and Tessa but HOLY CUPCAKE!!  Could you find another way to rip my heart out, do a "stomp the yard" dance on it and throw it back at me with demon pox all over it?!  *clutches chest*  How anyone with a heart can NOT be "Team Will" after this book, I'll never understand but if they aren't, then I say, in the words of giddy Will, "A demonpox on all your houses!" OK, so that's a tad harsh but still. "Clockwork Prince" picks up right where "Clockwork Angel" leaves off, with Tessa still trying to discover who she is and what Mortma...
