COVER REVEAL + EXCERPT: SIDEBARRED by Emma Chase

May 2016

There was a time when Jake Becker had it all together. He was controlled, driven, ruthlessā€”in and out of the courtroom.

Then, six irresistible orphans and their heartbreakingly beautiful aunt crashed into his perfectly ordered life. They changed everything. They changed him. Now heā€™s a husband, an upstanding member of society, a father figureā€”a family man.

And heā€™s pretty damn good at it.

Sure, he has to referee sibling smackdowns, re-learn algebra, ensure his clients stay of jail, and keep his wife happyā€”but it finally feels like heā€™s got it together again....

So, of course something has to screw it all up.

Itā€™s huge. Life-changing. Kind of terrifying.

And it will be the most amazing, perfect thing heā€™ll ever do.

EXCERPT

Chelsea sits beside me on the couch, facing me, her legs tucked, her pretty feet curled under her. Yesā€”Chelsea has pretty feet, okay? I never knew feet could be prettyā€”until I saw hers.

ā€œSo . . . that talk I mentioned before? We should probably have that now, while we can.ā€

I take a sip of my drink and nod. ā€œYeahā€”I wasnā€™t at all hoping youā€™d forget about it or anything.ā€

Her face slides into a grin. ā€œFunny.ā€

I look back at her, straight-faced. ā€œIā€™m a funny guy.ā€

When she doesnā€™t say anything for a few moments, I ask, ā€œWhatā€™s up?"
Because now Iā€™m actually getting concerned. My stomach tightens as I brace for whateverā€™s worrying herā€”and before I even know what Iā€™m up against, in my head Iā€™m already planning all the ways Iā€™ll take care of it. Because thatā€™s what I doā€”and Iā€™m good at it. But what she tells me next blows my f**king mind.

ā€œIā€™m late."

Two wordsā€”ten thousand thoughts exploding in my head at once. Iā€™m a big guy, six-five, 225 pounds of muscle. Guys like me, our voices donā€™t squeak. But at this moment, mine comes damn close.

ā€œLike . . . for an appointment?ā€

Chelsea inhales deeply, then breathes out, ā€œNo.ā€

"Clockwork Prince" (The Infernal Devices Book 2) ~ Cassandra Clare

Let's take a moment to drool over, I mean, appreciate the pretty cover, shall we? *sighs* Once again, Cassandra Clare has managed to suck me into her colorful story of adventure, intrigue, love, romance and excruciating heartbreak.  *clutches chest*  Normally, I blast through books in a few hours, but I purposely took my time with this one because I wanted to savor every minute with Will, Jem and Tessa but HOLY CUPCAKE!!  Could you find another way to rip my heart out, do a "stomp the yard" dance on it and throw it back at me with demon pox all over it?!  *clutches chest*  How anyone with a heart can NOT be "Team Will" after this book, I'll never understand but if they aren't, then I say, in the words of giddy Will, "A demonpox on all your houses!" OK, so that's a tad harsh but still. "Clockwork Prince" picks up right where "Clockwork Angel" leaves off, with Tessa still trying to discover who she is and what Mortma...
