Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems besides the point now.
Maybe that was always besides the point.
Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.
When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.
That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .
Is that what she’s supposed to do?
Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?
I am super excited to read this. I'm also a little scared because I'm afraid I'll be able to relate to it way more than I'm comfortable admitting.
I'm heading to ALA MW in Philly this weekend and I'm hoping that I get to meet Rainbow Rowell since I missed her BEA and when she came to D.C. last year.

Woohoo!!!! Great pick, Jen! You know I haven't read any of her books, but I'm curious about this one.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, this one sounds awesome! I loved Attachments....a story from the modern age of e-mails and texts....so this step back in time sounds so tempting. Landline is going on my list. Here's MY WOW POST

This is a great pick, though I agree that this might be a bit too much emotionally for me!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting read! Cute blog, by the way!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness... YES! This is one of my anticipated books of 2014 for the same reason you mentioned: relating to it. It's the first synopsis that I've read that made me tear up.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that Rowell can do any wrong at this point! ;)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read any of Rainbow Rowell's books but Landline sounds really interesting. I think I'll be emotional since marriage is a milestone and seeing the what-ifs play out is scary. Have fun at ALA this weekend!
