BLOG TOUR: Salt by Danielle Ellison

Welcome to Jenuine Cupcakes,
This is my stop on the SALT Blog Tour which is being hosted by Rockstar Book Tours!

About the Book

Salt (Salt #1) Author: Danielle Ellison
Release Date: January 7, 2014
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Goodreads/Amazon/Barnes & Noble/iTunes

Penelope is a witch, part of a secret society protecting humans from demon attacks. But when she was a child, a demon killed her parentsā€”and stole her magic. Since then, sheā€™s been pretending to be something sheā€™s not, using her sisterā€™s magic to hide her own loss, to prevent being sent away.

When sheā€™s finally given the chance to join the elite demon-hunting force, Penelope thinks that will finally change. With her sisterā€™s help, she can squeeze through the tests and get access to the information she needs to find "her" demon. To take back what was stolen.

Then she meets Carter. Heā€™s cute, smart, and she can borrow his magic, too. He knows her secretā€”but he also has one of his own.

Suddenly, Penelopeā€™s impossible quest becomes far more complicated. Because Carterā€™s not telling her everything, and itā€™s starting to seem like the demons have their own agendaā€¦and theyā€™re far too interested in her.

About Danielle

Danielle Ellison is from a small town in West Virginia. She spent her childhood pretending to fly and talking to imaginary friends. When she grew up, she finally flew away (in an airplane) and started traveling the world. She hasnā€™t stopped yet, but someday she may decide to settle in one place. Her real life friends would definitely like that; they would probably also like if she stopped talking to her characters out loud.

SALT comes out in August 2013, and then it's sequel. In October 2014, FOLLOW ME THROUGH DARKNESS (book one of the BOUNDLESS Trilogy) comes out. She's got a busy few years!

Author Interview
Thanks for stopping by Jenuine Cupcakes today, Danielle!
*hands you a dozen Twix cupcakes ;) *

What inspired you to write SALT?
I was finishing up a major revision of Follow Me Through Darkness (out October 2014) and my roommate, Josh, encouraged me to watch Supernatural. I didnā€™t want to at first, but I did, and a week or two later (because this is what we writers do when we are stressed) I was halfway through season one and in love. I watched episodes as rewards (or encouragement) to finish revisions. One day, I had a voice in my head while straightening my hairā€”and not long after that SALT was born. It made me laugh and the world intrigued me. It was a very uplifting project to write after working on a darker book. So, stress and Supernatural.  ;)

Which character was the most fun to write?
Penelope is fun for me, actually, but I think the one who was the most fun was Ric. He has such a great motivation and backstory. Heā€™s sort of this merger of three really great guy friends that I have into one character, so I think thatā€™s why.

If Penelope had a theme song, what would it be and why?
Sheā€™s more the kind to have songs written about her, so I donā€™t think it exists yet. But itā€™d definitely be something loud, something with female rocker, and one of those songs that gets stuck in your head.

If you could be one of your characters for 24 hours, who would you choose?
Iā€™d probably be Connie. Sheā€™s Penelopeā€™s sister, and sheā€™s not the MC, but I thereā€™s this whole side of her that we never get to see. Iā€™m compelled by her, and itā€™d be cool to see her outside of Penelopeā€™s eyes. My second choice would probably be Poncho, because I think heā€™s so fascinating.

What was the last book you read and loved?
One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern ā€“ and before that it was To All the Boys Iā€™ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. Both are out in April and May 2014. Completely different stories, but both amazing.

The best piece of writing advice I ever received was...
Love what you are writing and always write for yourself.

Thanks Danielle!

"Clockwork Prince" (The Infernal Devices Book 2) ~ Cassandra Clare

Let's take a moment to drool over, I mean, appreciate the pretty cover, shall we? *sighs* Once again, Cassandra Clare has managed to suck me into her colorful story of adventure, intrigue, love, romance and excruciating heartbreak.  *clutches chest*  Normally, I blast through books in a few hours, but I purposely took my time with this one because I wanted to savor every minute with Will, Jem and Tessa but HOLY CUPCAKE!!  Could you find another way to rip my heart out, do a "stomp the yard" dance on it and throw it back at me with demon pox all over it?!  *clutches chest*  How anyone with a heart can NOT be "Team Will" after this book, I'll never understand but if they aren't, then I say, in the words of giddy Will, "A demonpox on all your houses!" OK, so that's a tad harsh but still. "Clockwork Prince" picks up right where "Clockwork Angel" leaves off, with Tessa still trying to discover who she is and what Mortma...
