BLOG TOUR: Wild Swans by Jessica Spotswood

WELCOME, this is my stop on the Wild Swans blog tour!

~ About WILD SWANS ~

The summer before Ivy’s senior year is going to be golden; all bonfires, barbeques, and spending time with her best friends. For once, she will just get to be. No summer classes, none of Granddad’s intense expectations to live up to the family name. For generations, the Milbourn women have lead extraordinary lives—and died young and tragically. Granddad calls it a legacy, but Ivy considers it a curse. Why else would her mother have run off and abandoned her as a child?

But when her mother unexpectedly returns home with two young daughters in tow, all of the stories Ivy wove to protect her heart start to unravel. The very people she once trusted now speak in lies. And all of Ivy’s ambition and determination cannot defend her against the secrets of the Milbourn past….

~ My Thoughts ~

What I Liked: The writing, the setting and the history of Ivy's family. I enjoyed the diverse cast of characters, but MY WORD, I have never loathed a YA parent more than I did Erica. Seriously. She was the worst. I loved Ivy's grandfather! The relationships, while messy, complicated, and at times, painful, felt genuine and relateable.

What Left Me Wanting More: To me, Ivy was too hard on Alex. Yes she had a lot to deal with, but she lost sight of the fact that she wasn't the only one in their friendship who was hurting.

Favorite Character: Claire, hands down. Every girl needs a Claire in their life. Someone who always has their back, but who also calls them out when necessary.

~ About Jessica Spotswood ~

I heart books, board games, tea, the color pink, theatre, twirly dresses, and bells chiming the hour. I live in Washington, DC with my playwright husband and a cuddly cat named Monkey. I work part-time as a children's library associate for the DC Public Library. I'm frighteningly enthusiastic.

I use GR to keep track of what I read and to recommend books that I really love.
