From the New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Wedding comes a novel about a man and a woman whose summer is about to get very, very steamy…

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn't mean she's opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister's case, she's as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He's willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. He might not be looking to settle down, but there's no denying the scorching attraction between them. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for…

Story: 4.5 stars!
I always enjoy Julie James' books! They feature strong, intelligent female MCs, their sexy and supportive counterparts and story lines that not only pull me in, but manage to make me feel smarter for having read them.

Suddenly One Summer starts off a little differently than her previous books---Victoria and Ford don't even meet until a few chapters in---but the pacing sets the stage for a story that about family, relationships and the many ways love can complicate things. Victoria is an entertaining blend of snark and class, and the tension between her and Ford made me smile. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the past love interests, but Ford might be my new favorite model of Julie James man. Especially after that babysitting scene with the volcanic vomiting. :D

Another deliciously entertaining story from Julie James. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Audio: 2 stars
This was not my favorite audio. Karen White, who has narrated other books by this author and who I usually enjoy, fell short for me this time. She frequently pronounced common words like "angst" incorrectly and made Ford's friends sound like surfer dudes. I'm glad I had the physical book to fall back on.

New York Times bestselling author Julie James practiced law with one of the nation's largest firms for several years until she began writing screenplays. After Hollywood producers optioned two of her scripts, she decided to leave the practice of law to write full-time. Her books have been translated into seventeen languages and Julie’s eighth novel, SUDDENLY ONE SUMMER, is now available.

Julie James lives with her husband and two children in Chicago, where she is working on her next novel.
