BLOG TOUR + BAKING WITH ROTH & ZAYNE: Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Welcome to Jenuine Cupcakes!
This is my stop on the Stone Cold Touch tour and you're in for a treat because Roth and Zayne stopped by to make cupcakes for Layla. More on that in a minute.

 ~ About the Book ~

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden.  Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

~ Guest Post: Baking with Roth and Zayne ~

To celebrate the release of STONE COLD TOUCH, I invited Roth and Zayne over to make cupcakes for Layla, an idea that seemed like a good one at the time, but now--- *glances around at the mess* I'm not so sure.

Zayne showed up first nearly giving me a heart attack. I mean, it's not every day you open the door to find a gargoyle smiling at you, right? He quickly apologized then proceeded to transform into his human form in the middle of my kitchen and well...I'm pretty sure he violated a health code or two.

Roth arrived a few minutes later wearing a sardonic smile and an apron that said, "I Turn Ovens On". I laughed. Zayne didn't.

Me: Thanks for coming, guys! What flavor should we make for Layla today?
Roth: Chocolate because it's sinfully delicious. Like me.

Me: True.

Zayne: *rolls eyes* Layla loves cookie dough. It's her favorite. There's always some in our refrigerator at home. You know, were we live. Together.
Me: Also true.

Now that the guys are arguing over what flavor cupcake Layla really wants, I notice half of the cookie dough balls I made last night are missing and every visible surface is dusted in powdered sugar, us included. At some point during our introduction, Bambi managed to slip off Roth's arm unnoticed and is now coiled around my KitcheAide mixer, flicking the power switch off and on with the end of her tail. Each time she does it, another puff of white explodes into the air.

Me: Okay, guys. We don't have a lot of time, so we need to focus. How about we try to give Layla the best of both worlds and make her cookie dough cupcakes with chocolate buttercream, sound good?

Zayne:  Layla will love the cookie dough cupcakes.  Let's do it.

Roth:  If that will get him to shut up, I'm all for it.
Me: The first rule of baking is what?
Roth: The first rule of baking is to get...hands on.

Zayne: What is the purpose of him being here again?
Me: Actually, the first rule is wash your hands. And don't lick your fingers until you're completely finished. Got it?
Them: Got it.

Me: Let's get started. Grab a---
Roth: You need something.

Me: Huh?

Roth: Your face.

Me: My face?

Roth: It's in need of my----apron. You have sugar on your face.
Zayne:  Can we just get started?

I hand Zayne an apron, give them each a bowl, point out ingredients and they start mixing: flour, sugar, eggs, butter, oil and milk.

Zayne: Shouldn't we use the mixer for this part?
Roth: Aww, what's the matter, Stony. Arms tired already?

Zayne: No. It just seems like a waste of time to do it by hand.

Me: We could use the mixer but, you two are both big strong guys. *pats them both on the back* And I'm not volunteering to get between Bambi and her new toy. Are you?

She hisses and another white cloud of sugar goes poof. At this rate there won't be anything left to make frosting with.

Me: Now that your batter is ready, you're going to pour it into the cupcake liners, filling each one 2/3 of the way up. Then we'll add the cookie dough balls.
Zayne: Like this?
Me: Yes. You're doing a great job, Zayne!

He smiles.
I smile.
Roth reaches over and drags his finger through Zayne's bowl.

Zayne: Stay the hell away from my bowl. *shoves Roth*
Roth: You really want to start something with me?  Right now?  *shoves Zayne back*
Me: Do I need to separate the two of you?

Them: No.

Me: All right, can one of you hand me the container of cookie dough balls?
Zayne: I don't see it. Where did you put it?
Me: On the counter. It was right here a minute ago---*searches around*
Roth: *starts to choke*
Me: Are you okay, Roth?
Roth: *nods*
Zayne: I think I found those balls you were looking for, Jen.
Me: Oh good, where are they?
Zayne: In Roth's mouth.
Me: *rolls eyes* I guess we're making vanilla cupcakes now.

The cupcakes go in the oven, the timer is set and we wait.

Me: While we're waiting for the cupcakes to be done, let's talk about Layla. What is your favorite thing about her?
Zayne: It's not just one thing. Layla's my best friend, but she's so much more than that.

Roth:  Layla's just...Layla.  Probably the only time I'll ever agree with him, but he's right.  It's not just one thing.

Me: What's one thing that she does that drives you nuts? Either in a good way or a bad way.
Roth: Hangs out with Stony.  So that's in a bad way.
Zayne: I could say the same thing about you.  Except you're worse.

Me: If you had to describe your feelings for her using only one word, what would you choose?
Zayne: Real
Roth: Intense

Once the cupcakes are cooled and Bambi has been returned to the safety of Roth's arm, we move on to frosting. I put Zayne in charge of mixing the butter, sugar, and cocoa together, along with my secret ingredient, while I show Roth how to hold the piping bag correctly. As it turns out, he's a natural.

Me: Those swirls look great, Roth!

Roth: I have many hidden talents.
Me: So I've heard. But you know, if the whole demon-without-a-soul thing doesn't work out, you could always open up a bakery.
Roth: Over my dead body. Or Stony's.
Zayne: How do mine look?

Me: I think you've both done an amazing job and Layla is very lucky girl!
