About Me

Thanks for stopping by Jenuine Cupcakes!

I'm Jen, you know, just in case you weren't sure. There are quite a few million of us around. Here are a few things that are specific to me.

FACT: This used to be my blog for reading and reviewing books, mostly YA. It all began back in 2010 with a sparkly vampire. I have no regrets.

FACT: I am a fast reader. So much so, my family teases me about being a Rapid Reader. Thank you, comedian Brian Reagan for that title. ;)

FACT: I have two big chunks of pink in my hair. On purpose. I've had it for so long now I often forget it's there. This has not stopped strangers from pulling on it to see if it's real or clip-on. It's real and it hurts when you pull it.

FACT: I am the wife of one husband and the mother of two boys which means I am completely outnumbered in my house. I love it, like 97% of the time. That other 3% though...because boys can be gross. We also have two Blue Heeler Australian Cattle Dogs named #BellaAndRanger.

FACT: I write. I've been through the agent rejection process for one of my novels. It was not the most fun I've ever had, but it taught me a lot.

FACT: I like to bake, and I used to have my own cupcake business on the side--Jenuine Cupcakes. Book launch parties featuring character themed cupcakes were most of my business.

FACT: I have a mild form of Dyslexia that affects my ability to math correctly, sometimes. Basically, my brain likes to switch the last sequence of numbers on me because it's a jerk.

FACT: I suffer from migraines. They are often debilitating and always annoying. Yes, I have tried everything under the sun to treat/ward off/thwart them, and I appreciate all of the helpful advice. Really, I do. But please don't expect me to have the same results as your husband's grandmother's sister's cousin had.

FACT: I love Jesus and I homeschool my youngest. (The oldest is in college #feartheturtle!) This does not mean I wear a denim jumper, drive a bus or dress like the other members of my family. That would be weird considering they're boys and we only have two kids. Nor does it mean I will attempt to thump you over the head with a Bible or try to baptize you in the fire of the Holy Spirit.

It DOES mean I will treat you with love and respect--even if/when we disagree--and I will expect you to do the same with me. You know, Golden Rule and all.

FACT: If we end up at the same bookish event, there is a 110% chance I will have cupcakes with me. Please don't hesitate to ask me for one. But only if you want to, no pressure or anything.

  5. Hi Jen! I found your blog via Jennifer L Armentrout's website. I loved you interview. It's so nice to see another homeschooling mom. I'm not a mom, but me and my three older siblings were all homeschooled, and I personally love seeing people's reactions when I tell them that. For a moment their eyes widen as if they just met someone who overcame leprosy. :-) Anyway, with that random fact out of the way, I can't wait to check out your blog some more.

  8. Just stumbled upon your blog, and seriously, I think we are destined to be friends. #1 Sarcasm is my superpower. #2 I laugh to the point of annoying everyone within a six mile radius and I don't care. #3. As a former cake decorator, I believe cupcakes are the most perfect dessert. Also, your confession that you weren't always a passionate reader gives me hope as the mom of a reluctant reader! Can't wait to dig deeper into your world, I mean blog!
