By: Harper Collins

From Goodreads

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about is kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

COVER REVEAL: Mine to Tarnish by Janeal Falor

(Mine .5)

Katherine’s place is the same as any woman’s—on the shelf next to the dresses and bolts of cloth. When she’s sold to a warlock, life grows even bleaker. Her new owner is as old and rancid as he is cruel, driving her to do the unthinkable: run.</ i>

Nothing prepared her for being on her own. And she’s definitely unprepared for the warlocks hunting her down. But she must stay one step ahead because if caught, the best she can hope for is death.

Book One:
(linked to Goodreads)

Janeal Falor lives in Utah where she’s finally managed to live in the same house for more than five years without moving. In her spare time she reads books like they’re nuts covered in caramel and chocolate, cooks whatever strikes her fancy, and enjoys the outdoors. Her husband and three children try to keep up with her overactive imagination. Usually they settle for having dinner on the table, even if she’s still going on about the voices in her head.

Tumble & Fall by Alexandra Coutts

Tumble & FallAuthor: Alexandra Coutts
Publication: September 17, 2013
By: Farrar, Straus and Giroux
2.5 Stars
*stares at the pretty cover*

A novel about the end of days full of surprising beginnings

The world is living in the shadow of oncoming disaster. An asteroid is set to strike the earth in just one week’s time; catastrophe is unavoidable. The question isn’t how to save the world—the question is, what to do with the time that's left? Against this stark backdrop, three island teens wrestle with intertwining stories of love, friendship and family—all with the ultimate stakes at hand.

Alexandra Coutts's TUMBLE & FALL is a powerful story of courage, love, and hope at the end of the world.

What I Liked: TUMBLE & FALL was in one of the many gift bags I recieved at BEA'13 and I am not ashamed to admit I spent have more than a few minutes staring at the pretty cover. The writing is beautiful and the premise intriguing - an asteroid is barrelling toward Earth threatening to end all life as we know it, so don't waste another minute. Told from three different POV's, I was anticipating an exciting story that would have me on the edge of my seat right up until the last page, but...that wasn't what happened.

What Left Me Wanting More: I usually enjoy seeing a story play out through more than one POV, however, TUMBLE & FALL left me feeling disconnected to the characters. I also felt like they were not as panicked as they should have been. I mean, THERE IS A FREXING ASTEROID HEADED STRAIGHT FOR YOU FACE PEOPLE!

Final Verdict: Beautiful writing but the build up leads to a lackluster ending.

The Boy on the Bridge by Natalie Standiford

The Boy on the Bridge Author: Natalie Standiford
Publication: July 30, 2013
By: Scholastic
3 Stars

A new breathtaking novel from Natalie Standiford about love and trust during the Cold War.

Laura Reid goes to Leningrad for a semester abroad as Cold War paranoia is peaking in 1982. She meets a young Russian artist named Alexei and soon, with Alexei as her guide, Laura immerses herself in the real Russia--a crazy world of wild parties, black-market books and music, and smuggled letters to dissidents. She must keep the relationship secret; associating with Americans is dangerous for Alexei, and if caught, Laura could be sent home and Alexei put under surveillance or worse. At the same time, she's been warned that Soviets often latch onto Americans in hopes of marrying them and thus escaping to the United States. But she knows Alexei loves her. Right?

As June approaches--when Laura must return to the United States--Alexei asks Laura to marry him. She's only nineteen and doesn't think she's ready to settle down. But what if Alexei is the love of her life? How can she leave him behind? If she has a chance to change his life, to rescue him from misery, shouldn't she take it?

Thank you YABC and Scholastic this ARC.

What I Liked: The cover for THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE as well as the time period covered is what captured my initial interest. I was in grade school in the eighties and can remember the tension between U.S. and the U.S.S.R. quite well.

I thought the storyline was interesting, American girl goes to Russia, is rescued by a cute guy and despite their two countries being staunch enemies and the language barrier, they fall in love and make plans to live happily-ever-after! *cue the drama* I did enjoy how the author made a point of showing when the characters were speaking Russian and the difficulties everyone had with the translations, some of which were pretty funny. Alexi was the most interesting character and I wanted to believe that he truly was in love with Laura but what unfolds kept me guessing until the last page.

While reading this book, I found myself thinking of my husband's cousin who married her own cute guy from Russia. (They met while on tour with a performing arts group. She sings, he dances.) They too have had to find a way to overcome the language barrier and I'm sure it wasn't easy at first for her parents and siblings when they decided to move to Russia to raise their little family. But they love each other and they find a way to make it work.

What Left Me Wanting More: I had a really hard time connecting with these characters, and truth be told, Laura annoyed me. I also wanted an epilogue of some kind, not necessarily a happily-ever-after, but closure.  This would have been a defining moment in Laura's life and I wanted to know how it affected her in the long term.

Final Verdict: Not exactly what I was expecting, but still a decent story.

REVIEWS: Rock and a Hard Place & Snapshot by Angie Stanton

Rock and a Hard Place: A Jamieson Brothers NovelAuthor: Angie Stanton
Publication: September 24, 2013
By: Harper Teen
3 Stars

When you fall in love with a rock star, anything can happen. . . .

Libby In an instant, Libby's life went from picture-perfect to a nightmare. After surviving a terrible car accident, Libby is abandoned by her father and left with her controlling aunt. A new town, a new school, no friends—Libby is utterly alone. But then she meets Peter.

Peter The lead singer in a rock band with his brothers, Peter hates that his parents overly manage his life.

Constantly surrounded by family, Peter just wants to get away. And when he meets Libby, he's finally found the one person who only wants to be with him, not the rock star.

But while Peter battles his family's growing interference in both his music and his personal life, Libby struggles with her aunt, who turns nastier each day. And even though Libby and Peter desperately want to be together, their drastically different lives threaten to keep them apart forever.

Thank you to Julie at A Tale of Many Reviews and Author Angie Stanton for providing ARC's of both books in exhange for an honest review.

What I Liked: I'm not gonna lie, I felt like I was reading about the Jonas Brothers in the beginning of this. (I happen to enjoy the JoBros, so this wasn't a bad thing.) The story was a bit cliche, however, Angie Stanton creates enough interest in the characters that I HAD to know what happened between Peter and Libby and finished this in about three hours.

We see quite a bit of Peter's parents, especially his Mom in this book which can be unusual even in a book about teenagers. Rock and a Hard Place has a balanced mix of drama, romance and swoon, but what I found really refreshing was that this is a clean read. No sex, no explicit language but still plenty of kissing.

What Left Me Wanting More: The feel of the dialogue seemed to swing from one extreme to the other. (I had to remind myself a few times that Peter and Libby were teenagers and not middle school or college age). The ending felt a bit abrupt too.

Final Verdict: Rock and a Hard Place is a swoony star-crossed love story that can be enjoyed by various ages.

Snapshot: A Jamieson Brothers NovelA Jamieson Brothers Novel

One kiss will change Marti's summer . . . forever.

Marti

Marti just wants a normal life. After dealing with her irresponsible rock-legend father and absentee mother, she only wants some peace . . . and fun. And that includes a summer at an exclusive arts camp.

Adam

For Adam, a normal life is not possible—not when he is the lead guitarist in a rock band with his brothers. So he's thrilled to finally have an opportunity to disguise himself and live like a normal teenager at summer camp.

And when Adam meets Marti, sparks fly. Between romantic bonfires and stolen kisses, they are inseparable.

Then Marti discovers who Adam truly is, and her world is turned upside down. Ever since her father nearly ruined her life, she vowed never to fall for a rocker. But when tragedy strikes, Marti is forced to look within. And she discovers that maybe falling in love with a rock star is not so crazy after all.

What I Liked: I think Adam is my favorite Jamieson bother. He's the perfect blend of snarky and sweet and I enjoyed the easy banter between he and Marti despite feeling like they jumped into a relationship way too fast. This companion to Rock and a Hard Place has more steam than it's predecessor and some of the choices Adam and Marti make had me sighing in frustration, but they are teenagers and teenagers are stupid sometimes. (I know, I used to be one.)

Angie Stanton doesn't let Adam and Marti get away unscathed, however, she holds them accountable, and makes them face the consequences. There is one scene in particular where Adam's mother puts him in his place and I wished I could have slapped her a high five!

It was nice to get a glimpse of what was going on with Peter and Libby especially after the way A Rock and a Hard Place ended.

What Left Me Wanting More: I am not a fan of Garrett at all.

Final Verdict: Makes a great companion to Rock and a Hard Place!

BLOG TOUR: Unchained (Nephilim Rising #1) by J. Lynn

Welcome to Jenuine Cupcakes,
This is my stop on the Unchained Blog Tour!

About the Book
Unchained (Nephilim Rising #1)
Publication: September 17, 2013
By: Entangled Edge
Genre: Adult

Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.

The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.

Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.

Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

My Thoughts
What I Liked: Whoever made the cover change call, was one smart cupcake because this one definitely depicts the story much better than the original cover did. I always enjoy JLA's writing style, whether she's telling me a story about turtle loving college guys, pure-bred protectors or glow worms, and UNCHAINED was no different.

I liked the characters of Lily, and Julian (especially Julian), even if I did feel the need to cover my eyes while reading certain parts. Lily is a great mix of strength, compassion and vulnerability while Julian is an intoxicating blend of swoon and danger.

Lily is surrounded by other Nephilim like herself who are charged with killing demons, but it's Julian, a Fallen and her supposed sworn enemy, who challenges her to question all she's believed to be true. The closer she gets to him, the more the lines of good versus evil and right and wrong begin to blur, leaving Lily even more confused. She wants to do the right thing, but she also can't deny that Julian isn't like all the other Fallen, or the way he makes her feel. He's always there when she needs him and only seems to want what's best for her, but when a traitor surfaces, Lily will have to decide whose been telling her the truth all along and whose only out to destroy her.

What I Wasn't Fangirling Over: There are a lot of graphic sexy parts.

Would I Rec This Read?: If you are under the age of 18 or a reader who is not fan of explicit sexy scenes, then you'll want to pass. This may not have been my favorite JLA book, but I have no doubt Julian and Michael will have their megafans right along with her other book guys. ;)

Blogger Spotlight: Laura from Music Plus Books

Welcome to Jenuine Cupcakes!

The Blogger in the Spotlight today is, Laura, from Music Plus Books!

Music Plus Books

Music Plus Books is a fun blog for music and book lovers alike!
Laura even dabbles in blog design, so you should definitely check her out.

Hi Laura! Can you tell me a little bit about yourself? (Maybe something that isn't included in the About Me section of your blog?)
I don't know if anyone cares but I'm actually Asian! Proud Vietnamese Aussie. (I happen to think that's pretty awesome!)

When someone says, "Oh, you have a blog? What is is about?" How do you answer that?
My blog is all about the books and music that I both enjoy and don't enjoy. I just like to share and interact with my followers.

What is your favorite genre to read and why?
I love YA! I don't think I can choose a specific subgenre because I honestly love all of them. YA is just so addicting. I love the age groups and the writing. Some adult books just take so much energy to read, understand and comprehend.

What is your favorite book, EVER?
Hard but I'd have to say The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay! (Josh. That is all.)

Do you prefer ebooks or real books?
Honestly, I read both. I prefer real books but I probably read more ebooks.

If you could spend the day with any book character OR musician, who would you choose and where would you go?
Cries! I'd want to go with a famous musician but then they won't have magic. So I have to go for, Magnus Bane! City of Bones <3 <---This. Especially if he looks like movie Magnus, because O.O

What song is on repeat on your iPod, in your car or in your head right now? (Mine is Royals by Lorde)
OMG I love Royals too! Right now, I just have the whole With Love album by Christina Grimmie on repeat. Especially loving I Bet You Don't Curse God right now.

Favorite concert or music festival you attended?
I have a really sad life, I've never been to one!

Least favorite thing to eat?
I love all food but I'd have to say really spicy food.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm not 100% but I want to be a teacher.

Blogging goal for this year?
To post at least 20 times a month for the rest of the year!

Music Plus Books' One Year Blogaversary is just a few days away and you can help Laura celebrate! She has lots of fun planned, like a giveaway-a-day beginning on the 16th and a massive $150 giveaway before it's all finished!
